Led by Dr Esther Waterhouse, Consultant in Palliative Medicine and communication skills trainer, and Jon Trevor, Founder and CEO of Improv Initiative.
This was a completely different kind of comms skills training to anything I’d done before. The first few exercises totally broke down any anxieties or fears about the day and the group really quickly became a safe, supportive group in which we all flourished. The games are genuinely fun and it isn’t always obvious what the learning points will be initially but as they develop the facilitators then allow the group to reflect and reach conclusions without any pushing and it’s like a light bulb goes off. It becomes apparent that the skills being learnt are fundamental pillars are building good communication without any need to memorise or rote learn phrases or approaches. It’s about how we connect, represent ourselves and build trust and meaning with our verbal and non verbal skills. Esther and Jon were just lovely. Engaging, charming and skilled at encouraging and supporting the group. A lovely informal day with real impact.

I was delighted to be challenged in my practice by the medical improvisation course and have been able to use activities from the day in delivering communication skill training.
Dr Luke Feathers, Palliative Care Consultant
I learn a profound communication skill from every session of improv I attend. I believe that every trainee should do improv as a way of learning communication skills.
